Why is my step count not updating?
Why Is My Step Count Not Updating?
If your steps aren't counting or the distance shows 0.00 km, here are the most common causes and fixes:
1. Activity Recognition permission not granted
Govah Steps requires the Physical Activity permission to access your device's step sensor.
Fix:
- Go to your phone's Settings → Apps → Govah Rider.
- Tap Permissions.
- Enable Physical Activity (or Motion & Fitness on iOS).
2. Battery optimisation is blocking the app
Some Android phones aggressively restrict background apps.
Fix:
- Go to Settings → Battery → Battery Optimisation.
- Find Govah Rider and set it to Don't Optimise.
3. Session is active but the screen is off
Steps are tracked while the session is active and the screen is awake. Keep the app in the foreground while walking.
4. Steps show correctly but distance is 0.00 km
This can occur if GPS is off or location accuracy is low. Govah also counts distance directly from your steps, so:
- Ensure Location permission is set to Always or While Using.
- Walk with your phone in your hand or pocket (not in a bag that stays still).
