How Govah Verifies Drivers

Before any driver can accept a trip on Govah, they pass through a comprehensive verification process.

Document checks

Document Requirement
Driver's licence Valid, not expired, correct PrDP category
Vehicle registration Matches the vehicle used on the platform
Insurance Minimum third-party insurance
Profile photo Clear, recent photo for rider identification
Identity document Valid South African ID or passport

Vehicle inspection

Vehicles must:

  • Be no older than 10 years from manufacture date
  • Pass a roadworthy assessment
  • Be clean and in good working condition

Background screening

All drivers undergo a criminal background check. Drivers with a history of violent crime, DUI, or fraud are not approved.

Ongoing monitoring

Approved drivers are subject to:

  • Community ratings — low-rated drivers are suspended pending review
  • Trip audits — unusual route deviations trigger automatic safety reviews
  • Periodic document renewal checks
